If you do any blog surfing its likely you have seen a recipe or two for Overnight Oats. Overnight Oats are oats that have been soaked overnight in liquids such as yogurt, milk, or a combination of both. The soaking process eliminates the need to heat the oats for tenderizing. My first Overnight Oats recipe (Overnight Pumpkin Pie Oats) was posted back in 2012, and I have created several recipe since.
Most of the recipes created for Overnight Oats on the web have been geared towards health conscious adults. Today’s recipe is changing it up and introducing overnight oats to the littles. Meet Baby Overnight Oats, a recipe designed for babies who can tolerate yogurt products.
Mix a few simple ingredients and you will have a nutrient packed meal your little one is sure to love. The fiber from the oats and protein from the yogurt is sure to keep them satiated. Choose to flavor the oats with the fruit puree of choice. I pureed a fresh peach, but you could also use pre-prepared fruit purees such as babyhood.
To moisten or tenderize the oats in this recipe both yogurt and infant formula were used. We served the Baby Overnight Oats to my little when he was 9 1/2 months, therefore cows milk was not appropriate. If your child is older than one year old and doesn’t have a milk allergy you may consider choosing that route. For yogurt I went with a more protein-packed option of Greek yogurt, but traditional plain yogurt would also work. Plain Greek yogurt does have a bold tangy flavor that not all babies may like. My son was not a fan on initial exposure, but more recently has accepted.
This recipe was tested in a project to make homemade food pouches. Stay tuned to learn more about my DIY food pouches!
Enjoy!
- 1/3 cup plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt)
- 4-5 tbsp fruit puree (ie. peach puree)
- 2 tbsp infant formula/breastmilk (or milk)
- 1/3 cup old fashion oats
