Red, White, & Blue Fruity Waffle Cups

A lower calorie sweet treat made by spooning a creamy fruit salad into waffle bowls.  Perfect healthier dessert option all ages will enjoy!

Looking for a lower calorie sweet treat that only takes minutes of preparation to serve up your guests this 4th of July?  Look no more - The Red, White, and Blue Fruit Waffle Cups are a perfect offering. They are filled with festive colored fruit (strawberries and blueberries) and covered in a lower calorie creamy whipped topping.  The cream is created by combining non fat Greek yogurt and light whipped topping.

They are super cute too right?!  I am fairly certain that the kiddos will come a running to try out this "dessert" that is primarily fruit based.  Not only will they want to eat these treats, but the simple preparation allows for the young ones to help assemble.  Hand them over their own bowl, mixing spoon, and the ingredients and VOILA you have  dessert ready!


This is not the first time I have created a treat by combining light whipped topping and Greek yogurt. Clearly I like this combination of ingredients and flavors.  What is not to love about simplicity, nutrition dense (protein-packed), and delicious flavor!

The trickiest part of this recipe creation was finding waffle cups that weren't broken.  The first time I purchased a box, I went with the generic brand.  Unfortunately when I opened the box EVERY - SINGLE waffle bowl was broken.  Not to worry I used the waffle crumbles during snack time to dip into Greek yogurt!  The good news is that the second box was perfect!

This family is taking is easy!  It looks like our 4th of July includes a barbecue at a neighbors house.  The cities largest fireworks display takes place only a few miles from our neighborhood, fingers crossed we can see them without leaving the house.

Red, White, & Blue Fruity Waffle Cups

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients (6 bowls)
  • 3/4 cup light whipped topping (ie. Tru Whip or light Cool Whip)
  • 5 oz non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 1/2 cup strawberries, sliced or cut
  • 1 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 6 small waffle bowls
Instructions
1. Whisk together whipped topping and Greek yogurt
2. Stir fruit into cream mixture and mix until well combined
3. Spoon mixture evenly into waffle bowls
4. Serve within an hour of preparation (waffle bowls will get soggy)
