A few weeks ago I served as a hostess for a beautiful baby shower for my cousin, who is having her first child in July. My cousin and I are like sisters as we grew up living only miles apart and went on to attend college together and become members of the same sorority. The shower was held in our homestate of Oklahoma at one of my cousin’s best friend’s homes. The hostess included 8 other woman who are lifelong family friends.
As soon as I walked in the home of the shower I was blown away by the gorgeous and elaborate decorations. Everywhere I turned something was decorated for the shower. Unfortunately I can not take credit for any of them. One of the hostesses was in charge of all the decorations. And she did not miss a beat. Seriously. It was one of the most beautiful baby showers I have ever attended. The picture above is the lighting over the main dessert table.
The dessert table is pictured above. It included beautiful gold striped straws with pink paper roses, mini bottles of water wrapped in pink toile, pink napkins with the babies initials, sugar cookies, pastel colored candies, and a diaper cake. I could not stop eating the mint chocolate chip meringue candies seen in the glass dish. The table was simple, elegant, and full of sweet treats. The hostess did an amazing job of keeps things non-cluttered and classy.
My absolute favorite sugar cookies were served! This is a close up of the cookies that were placed on a tray covered in pink jelly bellies. The cookies were from a bakery called Eileens Colossal Cookies. This is not the first mention of cookies from Eileen’s on the blog. These cookies were also served at my baby shower in Oklahoma. Yes the cookies are sugary, but they have a delicious Almond flavored sweetness you are sure to love.
Given the timing of the shower, a brunch was served. Unlike many of the wedding and baby showers I have attended in the past, the brunch food was already served up on the plate (rather than served as a buffet style). During the shower planning I was not sure how I felt about this method, but at the event I realized how much I appreciated this serving style. First this allowed the guests to be served. It didn’t promote people hovering over a table of food. Lastly it certainly helped with portion control. Who hasn’t stood over the table at a shower or party and eaten more than planned?
The plate of food offered was a balance of protein, fat, fruit, and a sweet treat. It included a fruit cup, a spinach frittata, mini poppyseed lemon muffins, and bacon strips. The hostesses all helped to contribute to the prepared foods. I assisted my mother with the poppyseed lemon muffins. Okay, well sort of assisted her. I was a taste tester and helped to decide whether they needed icing on top (we decided no).
And I can’t go without elaborating on one of talked about foods of the shower – the “Sweet and Spicy Bacon”!! Who has ever had bacon coated in brown sugar and cayenne pepper?! Certainly a food you want to eat in moderation for special recipes, but its a must try. It was new to me and I just had to share it with my readers.
It was a special shower for a special person. I can’t wait to meet baby girl A!!!
